So Much To Say

This is Psychiatry Consult, I Was Paged?

So, I start doing consults at the main university hospital tomorrow. I've been anxious about it for weeks. My co-resident is one of the few people I dislike in the world, to such a degree that I can't look this resident in the eye most of the time. It's a ton of work and a lot of pointless stress and frustration.

But amid all of that, I'm excited to start tomorrow. I had a great weekend helping Dean move his stuff from Pittsburgh to Philly (and got to meet all his friends), and now I get a quiet night at home, preparing my white coat and looking up how to do consults and happy the awful anticipation is almost over. And that I get to go to bed early.

And So It Goes

If anybody who reads this blog DOESN'T know yet, one of my best friends was hit by a car when she was on her bike, exactly 4 weeks ago tonight. It seems like a lifetime has gone by, but it's only been 4 weeks. She's stable, in a coma, and all we can do is wait for her to wake up. I meant to go to the hospital tonight to visit, but I went two nights ago, it's raining out, I had to stay late at work, and by the time it was time to leave work I just wanted to come home, eat some dinner, and get ready for bed... which is what I'm doing.

In other news, developments continue with this guy from Pittsburgh who I mentioned in my last post. His name is Dean and things have gone very well between us. He visited me the weekend of August 15th, I visited him the weekend of August 22nd, he visited me the weekend of August 29th and this past weekend. He's quitting his PhD program and taking a job in the Philly area, and is taking an apartment in the Graduate Hospital area. Hooray! (I know he'd been thinking of quitting his program anyway, but I can't say I didn't influence his decision to at least look for jobs in the Philly area... and then it turned out what looks like a dream job opened up for him, and the rest is history.) He left this morning after a 4-day stay with me, and he's moving a small carload of stuff here a week from now. I'll have to post more later on about what is so great about him, and how I feel when I'm with him, but I guess all that matters is, I'm quite happy.
