So Much To Say

Right.

Man, I am plastered from a night out with my friend Amy (not roommate Amy). We started at a reception for fourth-years to interact with first-years, basically to console them and tell them about what the rest of med school is like. There was free booze at that reception (and free food), but it wasn't until getting drinks at Nodding Head that I started to feel tipsy. Then we went to Marathon Grill for Thursday dollar drinks and people seriously lost their shit. Did I mention I still have a 5-page paper to write for tomorrow?

My Presentation...

...on Chopin's Prelude #4 in E minor went really well, even though I was quite nervous to be giving a presentation that was very different from the others. (FYI, I was walking them through the prelude and why I always thought of someone dying when I heard it, and I played a recording of the piece.) Some of the comments I got were: "very brave/thoughtful," "moving topic -- refreshing," "of all the talks today, most important message/spirit," and my favorite: "inspires me to hear other things in music."

Went for drinks with the dude from Saturday night, and it was fun -- we talked for 3 hours! -- but I think he's just not that into me, as the catty guy from Sex and the City would say. Oh well.

A Couple Things

I've been sick lately, and it's been bad. Strangely bad, considering all it was was a sore throat and fever. I was in bed all day Thursday (except in the evening, when I had to run a psychiatry society movie night up at the school). I've been coughing and my throat is still painfully sore. But at least I can walk around.

In other news, I was smitten last night with a man I met out dancing in a club. We have plans to go out this week. I'll let you know how it goes.

i'll cut ya

The lunar eclipse was really cool tonight. I saw "Diving Bell and the Butterfly" tonight, which was fantastic, and as Karina and I came out of the theater, she pointed out the awesome moon, half covered in fuzzy shadow.

So after working a while at home, I pulled up my shade to look out my window to see how the eclipse had progressed, and I noticed a couple of large shadowy figures in the little patio behind our house. It looked like they were looking at the beach umbrella that had been knocked down by the wind. I ran downstairs and flipped the common room light on, and they left. Spooky.

Hyperventilating

At 8:30pm earlier tonight, in my room...

ME
Hello?

TRAINING DIRECTOR
Hi, this is [training director] from [program Eleanor really wants to match at]. I was just calling to say that we'd love to have you in our program, and to see if you had any questions.

ME
(trying fiercely not to squeal)
Ah, okay. Well, I've been talking to the residents, and I did a Second Look and got to see the work environment on one of the floors, and the residents have just been great about answering my questions. I've loved Penn since I interviewed there, and nothing since really topped it, so I'm going to rank it #1.

TD
Oh, wonderful! Well, then I think there's a good chance you'll match with us.

ME
(silently fist-pumping)
Great, I'd be really excited if I did.

TD
Okay, let me know if you have any other questions in the future.

ME
Thanks very much. Bye.

This conversation was of course followed by half an hour of solo impromptu dance party in my room.

Online Dating

I went on a second date with Chris, a guy from nerve.com, tonight. (This is not the super-verbal guy I blogged about before... I got tired of him and have been giving him the cold shoulder.) Anyway, afterward, I chatted with a friend of mine, and here's the transcript:

me: i mean, it's not like there's no attraction
10:59 PM and i know myself and that i tend to become more attracted to someone the more i know them (if they have a good personality)
so it's just like. i wish we could wait to kiss until i wanted it more hehe
but on the other hand, i wouldn't want to build it up a lot
11:00 PM Friend: right. i often feel the same way. but it takes me sometimes months to build up that attraction. :) and yeah, its hard to wait that long when dating. i think when it takes that long, dating really isn't the right way to get to know someone
11:01 PM me: right, but how else do you meet people?
Friend: although, when it comes to that, when IS dating the right way to get to know someone?
right
me: hehehe
never!
i hate dating
i liked tonight, but still. i wish i could skip right to Relationship with Perfect Guy
Friend: I DO TOO

Guess Where Amy And I Are In This Picture

...a strip club (surprise, surprise). This is back in the spring, at a friend's bachelorette party. We went to this male strip club, "The Cave," and watched a bunch of (probably gay) guys strip. It was pretty hilarious. I enjoy my determined little smile in this pic.

Babysitting Rocks

I babysat Isaac and Ben tonight while Matt and Maggie went to "Avenue Q," and after I put the kids to bed, I watched 1 1/2 episodes of this. Pretty good stuff. (Finally, David Schwimmer can put his annoyingness to good use.)
