Rough 'n' Tumble

Christmas Eve service at my sister-in-law's church is pretty great. Not in the sense of take-your-breath-away splendor, but in the sense of being in the presence of a real community, where the "Peace be with you" part of the service takes ten minutes because everyone's left their pew and is gathered in the aisles hugging and shaking hands with each other and chattering.

Afterward, we went back to Matt and Maggie's house for Cheez-Its, hors d'oeuvres, and my two nephews playing "like puppies" as Maggie said. Isaac's favorite game is to put his arms around Ben's neck from behind and let Ben drag him everywhere.

Winter

I walked home from the hospital in the late afternoon today, and it was so beautiful. Even through my exhaustion (did I mention I hated this sub-i?), I really appreciated the blue-gold sky and silhouetted bare branches and the moon.

The Sheriff's a Nigbong

Just watched "Blazing Saddles" with my roommate's husband. I thought it was hilarious. Totally un-PC, goofy in the way that all Mel Brooks offerings are, but hilarious. I loved that there were always cows in the background, even in indoor shots.

Last night, by contrast, I saw "Atonement" at the Ritz theater with a couple friends. It was great for like 45 minutes, then dragged. Visually, it was fantastic, but plot-wise it didn't move along very well.

...

As Diane from Cheers said, "Thank you, Siskel and Ebert."

Home Sweet Home

This is where I'm doing my inpatient medicine sub-i. GAHHHHH! Actually, it's not so bad, except for today. Today we were on call, and it was nonstop work. I'm such a wuss, I can't handle it.
