Surfacing
Sheesh. I have been incredibly busy lately. Including the commute, my work days have been almost 12 hours long, and then I have to come home and study afterwards. And what with my chorus concert being this Friday, I have rehearsals up the wazoo (especially since I have a solo! w00t), so I barely get time to eat, let alone relax or go to the gym. And I realized long ago that all my studying is wasted if I don't get enough sleep, so I have to make time for that.
For example, here's a typical day from this week (my plan for tomorrow):
5:40am -- wake up
6:15am -- leave to get tea or coffee and hop on the subway, study on the subway
7:00am -- arrive at work, change into my white coat, see my patients and write progress notes
11:30am -- Grand Rounds (probably something pulmonary)
12:30pm -- lunch
5:00pm -- finish work, leave the hospital, study on the subway
5:40pm -- scrounge up some grub
6:00pm -- study
7:00pm -- chorus rehearsal
9:45pm -- bedtime
So anyway, I'm gonna keep my nose to the grindstone this week, then plan on taking some study breaks this weekend to relax and let my eyes glaze over. I gotta take some me-time and reawaken some humanity in myself if I'm going to make it through the next couple of weeks till the exam (and till this #%*&ing report is due the same day).

There is life after school, at least for those of us in arty professions. Maybe there isn't life after school for doctors? Anyway, if you can make it through, and are so fortunate as I, you can spend your sunday gluing cute Christmas cards, listening to (alternately) Kanye West and Bing Crosby, and cleaning your microwave. Is this real life?
